July 2008

During the first part of August we will be having “Board of Reviews” for many of you. The dates and times will be announced so keep watch here at t48bsa.org for updates as they become available. We have set the date for the Court of Honor. It will be on Monday August 25th, it will be a covered dish dinner in the fellowship hall at the Church. We will start eating at 6:00 pm with the court of honor to follow.  Also here are a few more pictures of the troop and our camp site after the storm.  It will be next week before I get a chance to post additional pictures.

Well work is underway cleaning up the wind damage at Chief Logan Scout Camp as you can see in the pictures below. When the first call went out there were several who answered. Carey and Doug have done a lot of cutting just to get roads and camp sites opened up enough so the camp can function. There is even a non Scouting group which I am not sure who they are but they are hard workers. The picture of the Scoutmasters tent in Yuma shows just how close some of the trees fell to folks. It is going to take a lot of man and equipment hours to get to every down tree.

According to Camp Director: Martha Channel

Early Tuesday morning the camp survived some very strong winds with no reported injuries. The National Weather Service estimates wind gust as high as 110 mph and an estimated 200 – 300 trees are down or need to come down at camp. Campers and staff were assembled at Mead Lodge (old dinning hall) and every one was accounted for. The high winds were caused by 2 micro burst colliding according to the National Weather Service. Once again Scouts have proven their ability to respond appropriately in an emergency.

Now the clean up begins and the camp has a needs list (below) that was published Wednesday evening, if you can help in any way contact the camp at 740-702-2272

Also I have heard that the troop will be eating in the old dinning hall tonight.  But hopefully there will be Scouts in the parking lot to direct you and help you carry all of the food in.

Good Evening!

Aww it has cooled off about 10 degrees and boy does it feel nice! So we had our dinner and we are just hanging out at the camp site. Some of the scouts have run off to high adventure for an out post camp fire. Filled with fun games and crazy teen age guy things.  Aww, did i mention that there is a water leak and the showers have been shut off. P-U I guess we will have to take showers in the morning. Every one is doing great and no one has got hurt yet. (but is is only Monday at least I think it is Monday cause when I am out at camp i lose all since of time) Any way camp is going great and dont forget about Family Night on Wednesday night at 6:00 Location TBA.

We are playing corn hole. And well some people (that some people happens to be my bro) has some pretty creative/crazy way throw  the corn hole bag.

I am Joshua and have been going to Chief Logan for four years and have been in Scouts for nine years. I have earned most of my merit badges here. Currently I am a Star scout and all I need for Life scout is a board of review. I am grateful for all the peaple who have kept this camp running through the years. Without everyone working here I would have never come this far in scouting. I have enjoyed all the years I have come here and hope to come again.

Howdy folks, I am Jason. This year at camp I am having a great time. I am working on many merit badges. It’s really really hot, and HUMID. It is awesome seeing a lot of friends and staff members that I haven’t seen in a really long time. I am looking forward to a funfilled week and hope everyone that reads this has a great summer as well. tudulu

I am Ben and i have been going to Chief Logan Reservation for 5 years as a boy scout and 10 as a scout all together. Coming here every year has been a pleasure and has really helped me advance in my scouting ranks. Currently i am a life scout and am working toward my eagle. Without this camp however that wouldn’t have beeen possible. So this is a big thank you to the people who have kept this camp alive and running.

Hello, my name is Sherman I am a 16 year old Life Scout curently enrolled in Troop 48.  Here at camp I plan on completing 6 merit badges at the minimum.  So far I have earned: Backpacking, Cooking, and Hiking merit badges at camp this year. In total I have earned 22 of cheif logans  merit badges.  I also have a merit badge from each area of chief logan including all of the handicraft badges.  I just can’t wait for pizza tuesday and euchre Thursday.

My name is Nicholas and I am working on the communications merit badge. Chief Logan is a fun camp mainly because we can do most anything we want at any time of the day. I have learned a lot at camp over the years, from the names of many wild plants to how to sail a boat. It is a great place to meet new poeple and have fun. It gets freakin hot out at camp so it is always nice to jump in the lake no matter what might be floating in it. This week i plan to finish Communications merit badge and nothing else really because the two merit badges I have left after Communications isn’t offered at camp.
