The 2008 Jackson Apple Festival is over, the rides and concessions are gone and the streets are cleaned up. After the remains of hurricane Ike blew through on Sunday the rest of the week had picture perfect weather and the crowds responded in kind. The folks attending the festival have once again been good to the troop and made use or our parking lots. The funds we earned will be used by our Scouts for major Scouting activities such as Summer Camp, National Jamboree or Philmont.
We would like to THANK the several local business who donated there parking lots and property for our use and are listed below, Reasor Outdoor Equipment who once again loaned us a Cub Cadett Big Country 4×4, and the Jackson Jaycee’s who sponsor the Jackson Apple Festival and also provided a link from their web site to our map showing the festival area and our parking lots. And of course THANKS to every one who parked in one of our lots. This would not be possible without this tremendous community support by every one.

The fun actually began on Sunday afternoon setting up the parking at the church. This involved setting post stinging wire and stapling name tags to the wire for each space. All of the parking spaces at the church are pre-sold for the whole week. The remains of Hurricane Ike were passing through and about the time we were finishing up the wind started un-doing what we had accomplished. Signs and caution tape flying in several direction at once. At this point we decided to wait until Monday to finish this part of the project. Jackson was fortunate compared to other area of the state as any power outage was very local and short. Thanks to Andrew, Josh and Michael for all of their hard work.
Monday evening we met to finish setting up the parking lot and to set up our exhibit area with our trailer and flags. Then on Tuesday the Festival officially begins and the first of many many cars will be parking in our lots.
Tuesday, the official first day of the festival and we started parking cars that evening. Wednesday the festival started getting busier and of course more customers for parking. We try to police the lots we park and keep the trash picked up. Area Scouts marched in two parades as the official color card. The afternoon School parade and the official Grand opening parade on Wednesday evening.

Boy can you believe it. One week from tonight the streets of Jackson will be closed off to starting building the Apple Festival. Apple Festival week is a busy time for the Troop and the time of our main fund raiser, parking cars. Remember the more you and your family work the more
you make. So if you have not signed up for shifts and locations make sure you do soon. The money earned can be used for any Scouting activity such as summer camp, Philmont or even the next National Jamboree in 2010 which will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Scouting in the United States. Along with other Jackson County Scouts we will be marching in the parades so parents will be maning the different lots before the parades. If you have friends and family coming in from out of town point them to the following link for directions to our parking locations. “Apple Festival Parking” or to the Apple Festival web site for more information.
