Now that Apple Festival activities are over we will be getting back to our regular meeting routine. Our next outing will be on Oct 30th and 31st. We will be camping at Buckeye Furnace which is located off of St. Rt. 124 east of Berlin Cross Roads. They are having their annual celebration and we will be assisting with parking cars for the event. The day will not be all work and no play though as there will be plenty of time for every one to enjoy all of the various activities going on. Current plans call for the troop to depart the church at 5:00 p.m. on Friday the 30th and return on on the evening of Saturday the 31st. All food will be furnished by the troop but you should bring anything special you might want to eat or drink. The gift shop will be open and there will possibly be other places to spend money so you might want a little pocket money. More information will be announced at troop meetings as it becomes available.

October & November plans
Posted by t48bsa under News | Tags: Activities, Camping, Service Project |Leave a Comment
The days are getting shorter nd the nights are getting cooler, fall is officially here. This coming weekend October 11, & 12 there is a work weekend planned at camp Chief Logan to do some more storm clean up. Although several from the troop are planning on attending this will not be an official troop activity. If you are attending you are on your own but you need to contact Ranger Carey this week! Cost I understand is $20 to cover meals.
On November 8th and 9th the troop will be camping at Charlie’s farm. On Saturday after breakfast we will be changing into our Class A’s and assisting with the pick up of food bags for the “Scouting for Food Drive”. Following this public service we will be returning to the farm for some fun activities. Plans for this weekend are being worked out at troop meetings so come and help plan.

Don’t forget it is Popcorn Time. Every one should have received an order form. When you fill the first one up it is ok to ask for a second one. Proceeds from this will be added to your Troop account which can be used for any major Scouting activity such as Summer camp or the 2010 National Jamboree.

Speaking of the Jamboree it is going to be extra special in 2010 as this is also the 100th birthday of Scouting in the United States. If want to go you need to get registered and your deposit paid. The only way to register is on line at: http://www.skcbsa.org/council_events/2010NationalScoutJamboree/NSJHome.htm From this site you can access the online form. If you have problems you may need to call the council office for assistance. The council is only going to be able to send 5 troops and they will fill up quick so don’t wait. Remember this is the only way to go as a participant. Adults or older Scouts you can sign up for a staff position, other than that you are restricted to being a visitor and day visits. I have been to 4 Jamboree’s now and it is hard to describe how really awesome it is to be camping with 0ver 40,000 fellow Scouts and Scouters. You can find several videos about Jamboree on YouTube that will help to give you some small understanding of what it is all about. If any one has questions about Jamboree I will do my best to answer them.

Jackson Co. Emergency Drill
Posted by t48bsa under News | Tags: Activities, Service Project |Leave a Comment
On June 1st 2008 Jackson Co. held its full scale emergency drill. This years drill was held in Coalton and as with past drills, county Boy Scouts were ask to serve as victims. Scouts and Scouters of Troop 48 volunteered to assist with this important training exercise. The original call went out at about 1:00 p.m. that there was smoke coming from a local school building. When the Fire Department arrived on the scene it was determined that the smoke was actually coming from a tank and the incident was declared to be a Haz Mat incident. The county Haz Mat team along with other area emergency response departments were alerted. As with all drill’s the scenario steadily gets worse with more and more problems coming into play with the object being to overwhelm the response causing them to call for more assistance from farther away. This helps emergency responders prepare to work together on a major event while praying such an event never actually happens. For more pictures of our Scouts as they both pre-pare for and participate in the drill click on the picture below. Do you think that they may have a future as crash test dummies?

Scouts & Scouters
Don’t forget that Saturday May 3rd is Beaver Day at Camp Chief Logan. There are enough chores to keep every one as busy as a Beaver for the whole day so come early and stay late to help get camp ready for a busy summer.
