A 10,600-acre site beside the New River Gorge National River will become the permanent home of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Jamboree starting in 2013.  The sight will also be home to a high-adventure base and summer camp which will open in 2014.

2009 Summer Camp Pictures

The troop is coming home this morning from a great week at CLR. Lots of advancement, new friends and memories to last a life time are coming with us. After the campers sleep a day or two they will start to think about how much they miss camp and when the next visit might be. There truly is a magic in the valley that rubs off on all who venture into it.  Once you have experienced this magic it is not easily forgotten. Keep an eye on the web site as I will be posting new pictures next week. A special thanks to the CLR staff for another fantastic week at Chief Logan. Oh yea we will have 3 going back for a 2nd week later in the summer along with two completing their CIT training…..  Friends truly are Friends forever!!!

Well it is a warm one with a chance of rain.  Last night was awsome thanks to our friends and family who made it great. We really enjoyed the home cooking.  Yesterday we took a group picture and it is posted below. Click on it to get the high resolution version.  Also yesterday morning we presented our flag collection as part of the morning flag ceremony and a picture of that is below.  This will be my last post for the week as it is time for me to get back to the real world. aka work…  But it was fantastic while it lasted.  Dan….

Great sleeping weather this week and the boy have been sleeping longer as the week go on.  Parents will be coming in tonight and all are looking forward to our parent cooking.  This after Officer Spraig from the Jackson Police Dept and his partner were in camp and Fritz demonstrated his specialities.  It is warmer today so we are dirnking lots of water.

Well we made it and setting up on Saturday once again made Sunday a breeze.  Every thing went smooth during check in.  The staff are ready it is going to be a great week.  Weather was warm yesterday but last night it cooled off enough to make sleeping comfortable.  Camp inspection is on Tuesday so all are busy taking care of the last of the list of minor items.  We are getting a lot of comments on our customized camp t-shirts.  If all goes well I willl be posting the next couple days while I am here.  I will be posting the bulk of the pictures next week once I return to work.

saturdayOk here is what the schedule for summer camp is.  On Saturday June 20th the Troop will leave t he Church at 8:00 a.m. for camp. We will set up all of our tents during this time to save time on Sunday.

On Sunday June 21st. we will leave the church at 1:00 p.m. for camp. This will allow us plenty of time to get settled in and still beat the rush getting physical re-checks, dinning hall training and swimming checks.

On June 24th Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. we will have our parents night covered dish dinner in the shelter house at camp. All family, friends and troop alumni are invited to joins us. Please bring plenty of covered dishes filled with great smelling and tasting foods. The scouts and leaders will be looking forward to them. Also bring table service and drinks.

Folks

I just found out that Chris Anderson (Max’s  uncle) who is a Troop 48 Eagle Scout (1989) and has served as an Asst. Scoutmaster with the troop for the past few years will be getting married in Mexico on January 17th.  I have added a picture of Chris taken at the 2001 National Scout Jamboree where he and I served on the Amateur Radio Staff.  On behalf of Troop 48 I want to wish Chris and his bride the very best even though he is skipping the Old Man’s Cave Winter Hike and campout.

NEW YORK —  A Long Island teenager has earned all 121 merit badges offered by the Boy Scouts of America. It’s an accomplishment the local arm of the organization calls “an almost unheard-of feat.”

Oceanside resident Shawn Goldsmith earned his final badge — for bugling — in time for his 18th birthday in November. He far surpassed the 21 badges required to achieve the elite rank of Eagle Scout.

He says he took about five years to earn his first 62 badges and then nearly doubled that number in a matter of months. He did it with the encouragement of his grandmother, who died shortly before he reached his goal.

The Binghamton University freshman was awarded his final badges on Dec. 19. He says he hopes to become a businessman and politician.
